Filed under: Uncategorized — mroe15 at 5:24 pm on Monday, March 7, 2011

imagesSarah Weeks wrote the book, So B. It. It is a book about a girl who has to live with her disabled mom and Bernie. This books theme is believing in yourself. As Hidi, the girl, ages she really starts to think about who she is and where she came from. She starts to ask Bernie but she doesn’t know, all she says is, ”There are some things that a person will never no.” Yet, every time she says that it make Hidi more interested to finid out. At one part in her life it makes her so interested that she goes and buys a ticket to go to Liberty. She knows that she is from there becasue her momma told her.As she buys the ticket she sees a sign that says, “Kids under the age of 12 can ride alone. Must have an adult with them at all time.” She then finds that she has to find a “pretent” mom to be with her. Read the rest of the book to find out what happens with Hidi.

This book was very inspiring I really enjoyed the book as I read it. I liked this book because I could experence how someone would have to live with a disabled parent. I didn’t like this book because it didn’t really keep me guessing what was about to happen next. The one part that I felt really could touch someone is when the gitl never actually got mad at the mom for not responding the way she wanted her to.

If I were to rate this book I would give it a 7 because as I said in the paragraph above that it really touched me in some parts. I would recommend this book to someone who likes to help the disabled people and an outstanding book.

Shark Girl Picture

Kelly Bingham wrote the book, Shark Girl, that is a realistic fiction book that tell a story about a girl that is drastically changed by one thing happening to her. This theme of the book is perseverance and never giving up on yourself. She has to change how she eats, drinks, and does everything in her life. Her dad is dead which really makes Janie miss him even more when this change in her life happens. Her mom has to raise Janie and Micheal, Janie’s brother, all by herself. After Janie goes home from the hospital; she has to go to school. When she goes to school she really feels unconfortable with herself. Janie’s friends are there to help her all the way.

I thought that this book was very interesting and moving. I thought that it was interesting because I have never actually met a person that has had an arm amputated before. It was moving because I actually got a feel for people that have to deal with this all their life. I was stunned when I found out how much a person has to do to recover from this accident.

What I liked about this book was that it really showed me how it would be like to have your arm amputated. I also liked to see that this girl, didn’t really let this accident ruin her life. She went one with her life without an arm. Some parts of this story she did feel depressed and worried, but what would you expect from a girl who just lost her right arm with an accident. I honestly didn’t think that there was anything wrong with the book. I thought that the ending was excellently well put, it really symbolizes her coming together and excepting who she was.

I would recommend this book to people that really enjoy the water and sharks. It would give you a chill at some points and make you cry but over all it is an astonishing book for young people to read.

Shoreline Experience

When I went to the beach with my family and we stood at a shoreline we could feel the way the waves would come in and our feet would sink. When I was looking at the ocean and how it was coming in I saw that as the ocean water came in it brought in new sand or shells. My sister and I would try to get the shell before it was gone from the ocean again. That is called wave deposit. We are learning about that in Science class. It is when the ocean meets the land and deposits the sand or shells at the shoreline. I am pretty sure that when the shells come in and then leave you will never see them again!

Pompeii Movie

We just watched a movie called Pompeii. It tells the story about how Pompeii was like in the year it had erupted. One thing that I could relate to is the Pyroclastic Flow. It should how quickly it erupted and how fast it can travel. We talked about that in Science class, how the pyroclastic can flow so quickly in so little time. The other thing that I can relate is the magma chamber and how it built up so high and all of the magma can explode in such little time. In class we studied a lot about the chambers and how it can cause such a bad thing to happen. I also learned that if the authority tells you to leave and evacuate you should do that so you don’t die.

I also thought that the cast that was made after the pyroclastic flow had hit them was really interesting.

It was a very effecting ending because Carl Hiaasen created an air of suspence about whether or not the owls would be saved. In the end the three kids pulled through to carry out their intentions and defeat the more powerful and money-consumed corporate adults. hoot

Massie Block, one of the main characters in the book, changed dramatically. In the beginning of the book she was a mean girl to Claire Lyons, the other main character. She would talk about her behind her back, tell roomers about her, and the one that made Claire the most mad was when she would talk about her clothes. Massie, as the goes on, get more use to Claire, she is nice to her and lets her be one of her models. Claire and Massie are becoming better friends. Read the book to find out if it stays that way.

FLIPPED[1]Why I gave the book, Flipped, a seven was because it kept you in interested in the beginning but toward the end of the book it just drops that. When it talks about the eggs and how she “grew” them, I thought was not that interesting. She should of said more on how she did it or how she felt during it. I didn’t give it a 10 because of the lack of detail.

pish_posh[1]Mr. Arbutnot is a hypnotist that helps Clara and Anabell in the story. He was the man who hypnotized Audrey, so that they could find out more to their problem. This allowed them to see what has triggered the woman’s depression. As the story goes on he sees that it was from a moment in time that had triggered this depression. Mr. Arbutnot is a minor character but has a large impact on the story.
