Ruth Chew wrote the book, The Hidden Cave, about a brother and a sister who discover a magician, Merlin, who was enchanted. They meet him in the forest behind their house. They don’t know why he is there so they go up and ask him what he is doing. When they go up and meet him he scares them. As they go on they try to find a place for him to stay. They decided that the sewage pipe would be good for him. When they go in there, normally they must be on their hands and knees to go across but they can stand straight up. They leave because they must go in for dinner. They promise come back the next morning. When they go back they take Merlin to the other end of the sewage pipe. When they get out to the other end they see that it is a garden. They go in and see the nice bushes and roses. As they walk along they see that Merlin pulling the leaves and herbs from the trees and plants. As they are leaving Merlin says, ” These are magical herbs and leaves.”As time goes on this is a continues action. When ever they see Merlin they some how end up going to a place that is not in their neighborhood. Read the book and see how Merlin, Alice, and Tom figure out a way to save their pool from the pirates. The theme of this book is adventure and the genera is realist fiction.
What the author I think was trying to say is that if you have an imagination you can do anything that you set your mine too. This book really shows it because the kids imagine a or of ideas. Merlin helps them an extreame amounts of ways.
What I liked about this book was that it was really interesting to see the places that they went. It makes me want to go there. What I didn’t like about this book was the ending. It was just not the best I thought.
If I were to recommend this book to is the ages of 5th grade to 8th grade. Also to anyone who likes adventures. This is because they go to some many places and see so much stuff. The second reason is it is a quick book and can really make you laugh. The last reason is because if you like to see what it would be like to have an awesome imagination.
